How To Give To Your Favorite Charity

By:Aron Neelie

Life is interesting.

When we are more youthful, we spend our time working long hours and saving as much of our money as humanly possible. As we age we look for ways to spend our time, once our most valuable commodity. We have our money and look forward to still saving as much as humanly possible. But every once in a while, we see someone in need, or many someone(s)s in need. And we think to ourselves, "I am so fortunate."Then often times we think, "I want to help".But the truth is, we really don't know how to help.

Giving to a charity is also recognizing a certain quality and character about yourself.Taking time to give something of yourself to another group for a common cause, no matter what your reason or personal feelings of getting there, is irrelevant. What matters is that you have done something to help others.

Help to others comes in many forms. But the help we are willing to give of ourselves is a different kind of giving. It is the kind of giving which comes from the heart. It is the kind of giving that is very personal.

Finding the right charity is not necessarily sought out.Usually, they find you because of the nature of you.And you in turn notice them, because of the nature of them and their plight and their cause. And for some reason, you are drawn to them and they to you.And together everyone joins for one common reason and becomes united, for one main goal.

Finding an honest and worthwhile charity may be the most interesting of journeys.

There are so many wonderful organizations and committees that are in the world.Yes, world. We are no longer confined to the knowledge of our Counties, we are aware of others and their needs and our collective hearts reach out for them; such as the recent plight of the Afghan women; or the alleged Russian Spy; or the distraught Hari Krishna children.

Again I say, giving is so very personal. It is a certain need you see elsewhere and want to help "fix" or "continue" or "bring to light".A purpose that needs addressing and you are willing and wanting to contribute.

Contributions come in many forms. The most precious form we have is our time. And free time is what charities always seem to need.Time and of course, money.

Your time can be very well spent with the charity of your liking. And there are always things to do.Not just he newsletter or the minutes, but the telephoning and the moving forward with ideas.

Getting the "work" done and executed is by far the hardest part of the charity's tasks at hand. There are many ways to achieve the end results of charity's needs. The problem usually inherently lies in the fact there are simply not enough people to do the job to the degree the charity needs it be.But the charities get by and the volunteers come and go.

The time that volunteers commit is the most precious. It is the most valuable. It is something which can never be given again, nor ever given back.

So spend your time wisely.Pick a charity that really touches you.One that means something and is worthy of your time and effort.

And time is not the only thing volunteers can give.Every charity has a Board of Directors. Some Boards need big people who can give in big ways, such as advertising or barter of some sort. Some Boards simply need people, bodies to fill the By-Laws quorum.

Every Charity has a meeting, sit in on one of the meetings.See what the charity is all about. What is important to them. What are they doing. How committed are they. How successful are they. And very importantly, are they a genuine charity.Be certain they have their "paperwork"; otherwise you may be dealing with well-intentioned people with a lack of business experience. As a potential volunteer, they will be happy to have you sit in on their meeting; after all, they have no idea what you may be bringing "to the table".And if you are a "doer", you may be goldmine!

There are many who are unable to physically participate with their favorite organization. That's why all charities accept checks and cash and in-kind donations. When a charity has their "paperwork" in order with the State, certain donations and portions thereof, are tax-deductible.

There are also others who wish to give and yet remain anonymous.Giving really does come in all forms. And what the giving allows is far more than most realize.

It means that the charity can go forward with its collective goal.It means that efforts of everyone involved have come to fruition. It means that a "cause" is being tended to.

And that is the payback.

To know that the time and effort you have contributed to the project you have worked on, has been successful. To know that the goal has been achieved is the most rewarding aspect of giving. To know that you participated in a program to help others is a wonderful way to live a day, a week, a few years.

So, whether it is your time, your service or your money, being apart of something wonderful belongs to your heart and soul and the lucky group receiving your charity.

No matter how we give, giving always feels terrific! So, give of yourself and give
freely and wisely.
